Calculating fees

At Doncaster LMC, we are unable to set indicative charges for services, as doing so would be considered price fixing. However, we are happy to guide you through the process of calculating the cost of delivering a service, allowing you to better understand how much you might need to charge.

Let’s take the example of an HGV (Heavy Goods Vehicle) medical, which involves several components to calculate:

Cost Breakdown Example:

  1. GP Consultation:

    • Hourly Rate: £85
    • Time Spent: 30 minutes for history and examination + 30 minutes for reviewing medical records + 20 minutes for completing paperwork = 80 minutes total (1 hour 20 minutes)
    • Cost for GP time:
      8560×80=£113.33\frac{85}{60} \times 80 = £113.33
  2. Receptionist:

    • Hourly Rate: £8.50
    • Time Spent: 10 minutes for appointment booking and administration
    • Cost for Receptionist time:
      8.5060×10=£1.42\frac{8.50}{60} \times 10 = £1.42
  3. Infrastructure Costs:

    • These costs include overheads such as heating, lighting, and general practice infrastructure.
    • Additional Charge: 20% of the total service costs to account for infrastructure
    • Infrastructure Cost:
      (113.33+1.42)×20%=£22.95(113.33 + 1.42) \times 20\% = £22.95

Total Cost of HGV Medical:

  • GP time: £113.33
  • Receptionist time: £1.42
  • Infrastructure costs: £22.95

Total Service Cost: £137.70

This breakdown helps you understand the different elements involved in delivering a service and how to calculate the associated costs. By accounting for your staff time and overheads, you can determine a fair charge for services based on your own operational structure.
